TAXIBOX Self-Storage is located near Clayton, a suburb of Melbourne 19km South East of Melbourne’s CBD. The area is name after ‘Clayton Vale’, a property owned by lawyer John Hughes Clayton in the 1860s. Clayton now has a population of approximately 20,000.
The area has a very multicultural community, and is home to a diverse mix of residential, industrial, scientific and educational facilities. Clayton was the home of Volkswagen assembly in Australia, with the factory later taken over by Datsun/Nissan. Bosch and Repco also had large manufacturing facilities in the area. Monash University was established as Melbourne’s second metropolitan university in 1958. Australia’s only particle accelerator, the Australian Synchrotron, was opened in Clayton in 2007. Clayton is also home to the Monash Medical Centre. Clayton Road with its scrumptious mix of eateries is at the centrepiece of the suburb, with Princes Hwy to the North and Centre Rd to the South.
